Some projects you can describe as ambitious, others you would describe as stark raving mad. This one falls into the latter category. Coming off two highly successful campaigns for American Horror Story, I challenged myself to push it further. To promote American Horror Story — Coven, I devised an experience for fans to encounter the strange, forbidden magic of New Orleans occultism. Fans registered on a parallax site that told the story and teased some of the series' upcoming story lines.
On a Wiccan holiday, the Autumn Sabbat, we would take twelve fans on a harrowing journey through the heart of New Orleans' City Park. Based on a 60 page script that I wrote over the course of three weeks, fans of the series encountered rituals, pyrotechnics, and incidentally, a tropical storm. The story was told in multiple social videos leading up to the season premiere. You can watch the videos below.
We shot B-Roll the night before the live experience only we couldn't use much of it because the following night it stormed.
